Though bowlers dream of strikes, they are more than happy to pick up spares. Sophomore Alex Newell used spares to her advantage on Monday, shooting a 620 on her way to a second place finish at the home bowling tournament.

“I did really good with picking up all my spares and trying my hardest today,” Newell said.

Like any other athlete, Newell looks to bowlers better than her to find inspiration to compete and be successful.

“I usually find someone who I think is a better bowler than me and try to do better than them,” Newell said, “and try to get some competition from that.”
