Students attend Kansas State Flute and Trumpet day

On Saturday, band students from MHS had the opportunity to attend the first annual Trumpet and Flute Day.

“We learned practice tips, instrument techniques and how to blend as a section,” junior Tony Rodriquez said.

At the end of the event, they performed a short concert, and the trumpet and flute professors played some solo literature. The event, held at McCain Auditorium, gave students the chance to play a solo for the professors. Anyone interested in performing a solo let their teacher know in advance. There were no tryouts so the opportunity was available to everyone.

“I played a tune called ‘Baroque and Blue,’” Rodriguez said. “I was a little nervous at first, but once I got into it I played pretty well. I had to play my best to get the most out of their professional critiques.”

Although there were only about 30 people who attended, K-State flute and trumpet professors hope to see everyone back next year with their friends. Trumpet and Flute Day was a great opportunity for the students to meet other people their own age who share their love of music.

“Everyone is friendly,” Rodriguez said. “We’ll teach anyone, even if they know nothing about music. It’s an absolute joy and ‘it don’t get better than matching band.’”
