House of Lords debate Brexit

 

The British Article 50 debate, namely the negotiations regarding the nation’s resignation from the European Union, took place during the second House of Lords meeting last Monday and Tuesday. Theresa May, the British Prime Minister, was among the 190 peers in attendance, marking the first time a Prime Minister has attended a debate on legislation in the Lords.

Record-breaking new planet system discovered

 

A system of seven planets surrounding a single star were discovered by NASA’s Spritzer Space telescope. Their findings were published in a journal on Wednesday. These planets are not only Earth sized, but they are also likely to contain liquid water. Scientists say that with the exception of certain atmospheric conditions, they may be inhabitable environments.

Russian opposition leader remembered in march

 

Boris Nemtsov, a Russian reformer, was remembered by his supporters with a march on Sunday in Moscow. The opposition leader was killed in 2015 after he was shot outside the Kremlin, a citadel in Moscow. Thousands of people gathered in the area, leaving flowers and various other tokens of remembrance.

Academy Awards mix up Best Picture winner

 

At the Oscars on Sunday, “La La Land” was mistakenly announced as the winner in the Best Picture category, when “Moonlight” was actually supposed to receive the award. Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty presented the award inadvertently holding the envelope for Best Actress in a Leading Role, which Emma Stone won earlier that night for “La La Land.”
