  1. According to scientists, Kansas is flatter than an IHOP pancake.
  2. Amelia Earhart was born in Atchison, Kansas.
  3. At one time, it was illegal to serve ice cream on cherry pie.
  4. Behind only Texas, Kansas is the nation’s second largest producer of beef cattle.
  5. Charles Wilson and William Purvis invented the helicopter in Kansas.
  6. In Kansas, it is illegal to hunt whales, even though we are nowhere near the coast.

  7. In Kansas, it is illegal to shoot rabbits from motorboats.
  8. In Kansas, it is illegal to use mules to hunt ducks.
  9. In Topeka, it is illegal to sing while wandering the streets at night, particularly the alphabet song.
  10. In Wichita, the restaurants Pizza Hut, White Castle, Freddy’s Frozen Custard, Nu Way Cafe, and Taco Tico opened their first restaurant.
  11. In 1981, Kansas won the award for the most beautiful license plate.
  12. In 2010, Kansas had a population of nearly 3 million.
  13. Kansas was the first state to ratify the 15th Amendment, which gave African-American men the right to vote.
  14. The first EF5 tornado hit Greensburg, Kansas.
  15. The First United Methodist Church in Hutchinson, Kansas was built during the grasshopper plague, so some of the foundation has grasshoppers mixed in.
