The Manhattan High debate team placed second at the Maize Invitational tournament in the Junior Varsity division. The tournament was the final tournament of the regular season.

“This was our last regular season tournament, “ head coach Mac Phrommany said. “So next weekend we’ve got the national qualifier.”

Freshmen Eli Kunz and Kate Ward went 2-2. Juniors Olivia Fateley and Tristan Metivier went 2-2. Junior Abrar Nasser and sophomore Katelyn Purdom went 2-2. Freshmen Allina Dougherty and Jordyn West went 1-3.

“It wasn’t my best tournament, but it was still fun,” West said

Junior Gil Bonilla-Martinez and senior Kate Page went 1-3, while sophomores Kaitlyn McMackin and Alayna Clark went 1-3.

“It was very fun,” Blark said. “I enjoyed competing again.”

Sophomores J.B. Brock and Silas Mills placed second overall in the tournament, going undefeated.

“All our rounds went pretty smoothly,” Brock said. “[Some of the rounds] like put us on our toes, but we managed to get through them.”

Debate will meet again this weekend at the National Qualifier.
