Art Club revived

Art Club has returned to Manhattan High School. After several years of being inactive, two Manhattan High School students decided to bring it back.

President Sama Nepal, sophomore, and vice president Morgan Erickson, sophomore, restarted this club after trying to join their freshman year.

“We both really wanted to be a part of an art club in high school,” Nepal said. “When we found out that there wasn’t one, we thought, you know let’s make a new one, let’s have something that we’ve always wanted.”

Art Club’s goal is to create a community for people to come have fun while making art.

“[Art Club is] a place for people who like art or are interested in any type of art,” Erkison said. “And have a space to work and hone their skills with other people.”

At meetings, members are given a prompt to each interpret. Afterwards, they come together as a group to see and compare everyone’s pieces.

“I think that part is the most fun of Art Club, when we combine all the pieces together and just see, since it’s a prompt everyone has their own particular interpretation,” Nepal said. “Seeing those interpretations together, how different people think of the same thing is really fun.”

The club has plans to do community and school based activities in the future, but as of now they’re just getting started. The club’s leadership is happy with how things have gone so far this year.

“We have quite a few members, we’ve had different people come each week,” club sponsor Grant Byquist said. “This will be our third meeting, so we are not that established, but hopefully here in the coming months we can do that.”

Art Club meets every other Tuesday in room E-007 after school. You can also check out their instagram at _mhs.art.club_ for more information.
