All-American Soberano to fill shoes

Mikey Soberano isn’t your everyday, average sophomore. Beneath the dude UGG slippers, and his Nissan Frontier, he’s won the All-American wrestling award twice now. Once last spring, and again just last month in Iowa. The All-American award is given to athletes who meet all the qualifications for it in their sport. Soberano has been wrestling for about ten years now, and achieving this goal shows his work paying off.

“[The best part of wrestling is] meeting new people and making great memories with them. It’s always cool to have friends all over,” Soberano said.

Last year, Soberano was on the Junior Varsity team, and he will be on Varsity this year. He’ll try to fill the shoes of some great Varsity players who graduated last year, and the All-American award will give a boost of confidence as he steps into the role.

He’ll wrestle in the 182 weight class, a weight class in which Manhattan did not have a state qualifier last year. This will set even more pressure upon Soberano, but he has proven up to the challenge with this award.
