Sophomore Joey Smith is a 15-year-old staff writer for the MHS Mentor who recently moved to Manhattan from South Carolina.

“The people are so much nicer here,” Smith said.

Smith joined Journalism for his interest of video creation.

“I started a YouTube channel about three years ago,” Smith said.

They plan to continue video creation through college.

“The negative aspects to streaming games are that they cost money and take about eight hours to complete,” Smith said.

Smith said they were very proud of one of the videos they made, which only took about four hours to complete. They received a lot of feedback from viewers. They also said it takes a lot of enthusiasm to reveal your face to the internet and people you’ve never met before.

Another difficult part of creating video is when people put negative comments that can emotionally hurt them. Smith’s advice for anyone wanting to start this hobby is to make sure you have a good camera and camera light.

“Be proud of what you can do,” Smith said.
