Benson Boone’s new upcoming album “American Heart” is coming out completely in June. After being on American Idol and the success he has made many great albums such as “Fireworks & Rollerblades,” “Walk Me Home…” and now “American Heart.” There will be a total of 10 songs on the “American Heart.” Currently there are only two songs out on the album on apple music, “Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else” and “Mystical Magical.” The top song currently of the two is “Mystical Magical.”
“Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else” is about running into old friends that think you are there to see them but in reality you are there for someone else. The song has a really fun synth part that matches well with the strong drum beat. The song has a little bit of background singers that mimic the main lyrics along with keeping things moving. The song is a bit repetitive and can easily blend into the background. I wish there were more instruments involved and even someone sound effects of what he is describing like a phone sound or even dinner noises. The song could have been even better if it had been a duet between two singers.
“Mystical Magical” starts with a cool record player type start before there is a ding and the lyrics start. The drums also pick up and go into an easy going pace. The lyrics talk about a girl playing with his feelings and how he knows that she will eventually fall for her if he waits around long enough. The most interesting part of this song is the use of the bell dings. It makes the song have more of a jazz feeling. When it hits the main lyrics the song goes to just piano before going to drum, synth and guitar. “Mystical Magical” is very catchy and will get stuck in your head without you even realizing. The main lyrics are very unique and make it memorable. This song reminds me a bit of a Hawaiian sway with the guitar chords. The way the song ends also gives a feeling like a record is ending.
Overall the best of the two is “Mystical Magical” because it just has an overall more catchy and appealing variety of instruments compared to “Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else.” Although the story is better for “Sorry I’m Here For Someone Else” because it is more relatable than believing you will win someone over eventually just by hanging out around them. Both songs are of a pop genre and match the genre quite well.
