Kim Jisoo, one of the four black pink members, released her own album called “AMORTAGE.” The album includes four songs, “Your Love,” “TEARS”, “Hugs & Kisses” and “earthquake,” the top song of the album according to apple music.
The first lyrical part of “earthquake” is executed wonderfully, serving as the main lyrics and having an off beat bass tone that changes to mimic the vocals. One of the interesting things about this song is the balance between English and Korean. A cool thing about the lyrics is you can look up an English translation and it makes complete sense with the song and the Korean words. The song has a lot of base and snaps but also uses a variety of synth and guitar to make the transitions between the chorus and other sections of the song. There is a fun amount of back up singers to make a variety of different voices in the background of the main lyrics and singer.
“Your Love” gives a much more calm song compared to “earthquake.” The song starts with a piano-like instrument and leads into vocals with more transition piano chords along with the previous instrument. The song then goes into this small echoing part before hitting the main chorus. The last line before the main chorus the backup singers sell the transition and make it more seamless for the drums to enter the song. The song then picks up a little then slows down. The lyrics describe finding someone you love at first sight and wanting to try and figure out anything to try, please the one you love and tell them how you feel.
“TEARS” starts out in Korean with synth and backup singers in the beginning. The song slowly escalates with snaps to the main lyrics where we get a bit more of a variety of English and Korean. This song keeps a nice strong beat through the whole song but doesn’t have much of a variety of music like the other songs in “AMORTAGE.” The end has a big drop from the drums that had been playing the whole time to just singing with a radio like distortion and guitar.
The beginning of “Hugs & Kisses” gives a sneak peek as to what is to come in later in the song. The song starts with echoes and follows throughout the song with the ends of phrases. The song has drums and backup singers that adds more color to the song. There is also guitar in the chorus of the song along with synth. The pace of “Hugs & Kisses” is fast and gives a workout song vibe. The lyrics talk about someone taking advantage of someone else and they finally realized that the “Hugs & Kisses” weren’t really out of affection.
My favorite song of the “AMORTAGE” album would have to be “earthquake.” The pacing of the song is very upbeat and has a fun variety of English and Korean. My least favorite of the album would have to be “TEARS” because it is a bit more Korean heavy which is a down side to someone who likes learning lyrics to certain songs. Overall the album is a feel good music in the pop genre.
