Freshman Jaylynn Levins, a staff writer for The Mentor, joined 21st Century Journalism because she likes to read and write.

“I like to write and see what others write,” Levins said.

Levins has lived in Manhattan since she was five or six, moving here from Savannah, Georgia because her father, a soldier with Fort Riley, was stationed here after he came back from serving in Iraq for over two years. Although she grew up in Georgia, she was born in Texas.

Levin's hobbies are based around spending time with loved ones.

“I like being outside, hanging out with friends, and hanging out with family,” Levins said. 

Family is clearly important to Levins. Her mother became a nurse shortly after moving to Kansas. Her sister is in nursing school, her brother is a firefighter and her other brother is interested in computers and technology.

Levins already has ideas for what she wants to write about.

“I like to write about me and my opinions and stuff happening in the world, ” said Levins.
