Sophomore Julien Sowell is a first-year staff writer with The Mentor.

He has a YouTube vlog channel and has joined 21st Century Journalism because he enjoys talking to people.

“[I’m most excited for] the people in the class, that first, I want to get to know people and see how we can all make each other better,” Sowell said. “Everyone brings something different and if we all grow and learn as a class then we’ll all walk out of here a better journalist.”

Sowell’s goals as a journalist are to find the best story and learn how to continue a conversation. He’s also looking forward to conducting interviews.

“If an accident happened, I’d love to be on the scene,” Sowell said. 

He takes inspiration from Lois Lane, a fictional journalist from Superman. 

Outside of school you can find Sowell playing basketball, running track, hanging out with friends, writing music, or working on starting a pingpong club.
