Manhattan High School Asian Student Union members were invited to the Lunar New Year of the rabbit party on Jan. 21. The party was hosted by Asian residents in the Manhattan area at the Frith Community Center at Kansas State University. The party consisted of a potluck, an origami station, a lantern making station, games and a photo booth which started at 5 p.m. and ended around 8 p.m. The optional attire for the party was to wear red because the color represents luck and prosperity.

“Lunar New Year is a big celebration in lots of Asian countries,” Co-President Madison Hsu, senior, said. “We wanted to bring that piece of everyone’s heritage to our community and just be together.”

ASU members plan to host another potluck and start soon planning the cultural fair and collaborating with the other cultural clubs at MHS (Black Student Union, AFS, Hispanic Student Union and German Club) around mid April.
