The Manhattan High boys tennis team has been busy over the past few weeks competing in four tournaments over those weeks. Most recently the team took first at the Topeka High Invite.
On April 16, the team took first overall at the Olathe Northwest quad. Competing in singles were senior Advith Natarajan going 2-1, freshman Jay Hoke going 3-0 and junior Jacob Hsu going 1-2. Playing doubles were seniors Holden Arthaud-Day and junior Zac Morgan who went 2-1, senior Jack Spiegel and sophomore Sam Byerly who went 1-2 and sophomore Brody Robinosn and freshman Luke Nichols went 0-3.
“Getting experience form new players to get confidence has helped,” Hoke said.
The next tournament was in the McPherson Invitational on April 19. The team took first overall with Hoke placing third in singles and junior Grayson Hayter placing 13th. In doubles Spiegel and Byerly took third and Arthaud-Day and Morgan took fifth.
The next stop for the team was the KC Invite on April 23. The team took seventh overall with Hoke placing seventh and Natarajan taking fifth in singles. In doubles Byerly and Spiegel took 10th with Arthaud-Day and Morgan taking seventh.
On April 28, the team competed at the Topeka High Invite where they took first overall with Hoke and Natarjan taking first in singles. Juniors Mason Gish and Andrew Foltz took first in doubles and Nichols and Robinons took sixth.
Next week Manhattan will compete at the Centennial League meet hosted by MHS on the Junction City courts on May 5.
Hoke shared his thoughts on what to fix before League.
“I need to improve on my body language, have a better mindset and breath,” Hoke said.
