After losing seven of their first eight games, the Manhattan Indians softball team (5-9) has won four of their last six.
“I think that at the beginning of the season, we were all kind of shy and not as familiar with each other,” freshman Lydia Wassenberg said, “and then as the season went on, we all got closer to each other.”
The Indians’ double-header against Emporia, which was supposed to be played on April 25, has now been postponed to May 12 due to weather.
The Indians split their most recent double-header against Hayden on April 22, winning the first game 10-4 and losing the second 7-6.
The Indians got their first — and so far, only — sweep of the year on April 15, defeating Junction City 11-4 and 8-6 at the Twin Oaks Sports Complex.
“We were finally able to string hits together and move runners around, we were bunting, our small ball aspect was great,” head coach Jori Bellas said. “We just showed up at the plate the way that we knew we could.”
The Indians are back at home after two weeks of only road games, with a double-header against Seaman on Wednesday.
“I think it will be really hype,” Wassenberg said.
