Manhattan High School’s Interpersonal Skills hosted their annual Manhattan’s Got Talent in Rezac Auditorium on April 9. The night was full of dancing, singing and comedy skits.
Although admission to Manhattan’s Got Talent was free, donations to Big Lakes Developmental Center were taken at the door.
“We partnered with Big Lakes and we raised donations for them,” senior Makenna Hailey said. “Big Lakes is a place here in town. And if people have a disability, they have rooms on their property, but also it just helps people with jobs.”
Some highlights of the night were the Family Feud inspired section and a guest appearance by head principal Michael Dorst and assistant principal David Holloway, where they busted out tiny hands for a pie-eating contest.
Behind the scenes, IPS went through days of preparation to make sure the night went without a hitch. Although their focus was on building an entertaining event and making sure performances were perfect for the community, the combined teamwork and coordination was the most important thing to making sure the night went smoothly.
“The entire class is built on relationships,” Hailey said. “The goal was to put on a talent show over the high school, but also it was to work together as a team to accomplish a common goal, whether that be completing an act, creating the brochure, organizing the acts.”
IPS’s goal is to teach students to be better members of the community. The class allows students to learn and grow, focusing on speech and connecting with one another.
“We try to include everyone and help people,” sophomore Ava Wollenberg said. “We learn how to do a couple of things and make sure everyone says nice words to people.”
