Spanish Club’s FlowerGrams raise dinero

Grito de Dolores, also known as Mexico’s Independence Day, has been celebrated every year on Sept. 16 since 1810. In Mexico City, the streets are filled with hundreds of people celebrating the holiday. At Manhattan High, the lunches were filled with Spanish Club members trying to raise money for a fundraiser by handing out Spanish Independence Day FlowerGrams in substitute for the CandyGrams that were handed out at the end of October for Day of the Dead.

“We’re probably not going to do CandyGrams this year, because of the regulations on food,” said club sponsor Lindsy Clark.

During both lunches, everyone was given the opportunity to send a flower to someone for the holiday. Last Tuesday, co-president of Spanish Club and senior Ben Turnley walked around the hallways with senior Lexi Bieker delivering FlowerGrams.
