Manhattan High’s Gay-Straight Alliance is sticking to their plans. The club’s goal is to spread awareness about the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender community, and they are succeeding. At their last meeting, club members made signs to hang around the school in honor of October being LGBT awareness month.

“We made [the signs] to inform people about the movement and what is represents, and what gay rights mean to us,” sophomore Martina Hernadez said. “I hope people will gain more knowledge and start understanding how we feel.”

The signs were all made by the members of the club, and the idea was thrown out by one of the club’s sponsors. According to GSA’s president sophomore Kylie Alexander, the idea was collectively voted on by the club.

“We’re hoping that people will realize that your peers might be any sort of sexual orientation and to keep them in mind, and to be careful about what you say because you never know how it will affect people,” Alexander said.

As for the rest of LGBT awareness month, the club plans on giving some presentations on the spectrum that is sexuality, gender and even romantic attraction.
