Schwartz family wins again

The Schwartz family is an incredibly lucky one, seeing both Juliana Schwartz and her brother, Joshua, have won the car giveaway back-to-back in the past two years. Manhattan High is home to many traditions, one of them being that every year students with perfect attendance from the previous year are thanked by having their names entered into a drawing to win a spectacular prize– that being a car. The ability to be able to remain present every single school day is not as easy as one thinks, however.

“If it’s a motivator for some, that’s great,” senior principal Marvin Rupe said. “… It’s a good effort to have perfect attendance.”

The winner of the giveaway is decided by handing each contestant an envelope, only one containing the key to the car. Each student is given their chance to see if their key is the right one that starts the car. This year, the winner was junior Juliana Schwartz, who was incredibly shocked to see she had won the car for a surprising reason.

“My brother won the car last year, so I wasn’t expecting to win this year, so now we have two cars,” Schwartz said. “I had no hopes.”
