Marvel and Netflix come together to present the darker side of superhero comics in the series premiere of “Luke Cage,” the third show of the highly anticipated “Defenders” series, which will combine with three other individual origin shows for the heroes Jessica Jones, Daredevil and Iron Fist and is scheduled to release in 2017.

The dramatic build up to “The Defenders” premiered its third installment on Friday, and “Luke Cage” quickly established that it would replace the hometown hero stereotype with hidden pasts, dark secrets and dangerous conspiracies. With a fast-paced and suspenseful plot, the show renders its viewers completely hooked.

The show narrates the story of the brooding and pensive Luke Cage, who is granted superhuman abilities by a lab experiment gone horribly wrong. Luke Cage is burdened with the tragedies of loss, betrayal and seclusion. He looks to rebuild his life from scratch after his encounters with fellow superhuman Jessica Jones. But whether super-strength and indestructibility are a blessing or a curse depends on who you are. For Luke Cage, a man with a dark history who juggles between jobs and struggles to make ends meet, these abilities are used for the sole purpose of self-preservation.

However, when a powerful, ruthless criminal network threatens the security and well-being of his neighborhood in Harlem, he can’t help but to take note. And when these villains make things personal, he just has to step in, even though his involvement will inevitably rehash the problems of his past that he gave everything to bury.

“Luke Cage” is a thrilling October binge-watch for Netflix users, who have 13 episodes at their fingertips, and a must-see for Marvel fans who are enthusiastically waiting for “The Defenders”.
