“Moana” heartwarming and engaging

A thrill-seeking adventure occurs in the new Disney movie “Moana.”

The story, released Nov. 23, is set in ancient Polynesia, where a young girl named Moana, played by Auli’i Cravalho a Hawaiian-born actress, breaks the trend of princesses searching for love. Instead, Moana is on an extraordinary search to save her people. Before enlisting on her journey, Moana meets a demigod, Maui, played by Dwayne Johnson, who helps Moana through the endearing journey.

The movie received the Truly Moving Picture Award and was nominated for the HMMA award. It is rated PG and shows the heartwarming journey of a girl in search of her identity.

The soundtrack includes 39 powerful songs that encompass the movie and Southern Pacific culture. The song “We Know The Way” was nominated for Best Original Song — Animated Film.

Moana is a princess of color, adding more diversity to the Disney franchise. The movie uses actions based on Samoan war dances and Polynesian traditional dances, embracing Southern Pacific culture. “Moana” also includes Polynesian myths reflecting the culture. The songs include Polynesian drumming and are crafted by Opetaia Foa’i, a Samoan musician. The cultural aspect in “Moana” is important because it is a big factor in Moana’s character and values.

“Moana” was a heartwarming movie with funny villains that are enjoyable to any age. The use of culture helps the audience feel more in touch with the characters. Throughout the movie Moana’s character develops well, making it a more enjoyable movie. Disney did a fantastic job with the new animated movie “Moana.”
