Tonight Manhattan High School is having an orchestra concert. The concert will be at 7 p.m. in Rezac Auditorium.

“Symphonic Orchestra is playing a grade six piece, which is highly difficult, and is considered to be a chamber piece,” sophomore Tarryn Lancaster said. “It’s definitely out of our comfort zone, but we really enjoy it.”

Along with this challenging piece, the high school will also be playing a song with the middle schoolers from both Anthony and Eisenhower middle schools.

“The middle schoolers have been working really hard,” Lancaster said. “I’m excited to see how much progress they have made.”

Normally symphonic plays a grade three piece.

“This year [Nate] McClendon has pushed us past our comfort zones and had us play a grade 5+ piece [something that chamber would normally play,]” Veronica Knight said. “We’re not fully ready yet but we will be by the time that competition arrives in April.”

Competition allows the orchestra to compete against other orchestras and get graded by professional judges on a scale from 1-5, with one being the best.
