Riverdale’s first episode of the season is full of questions

The new season of Riverdale started Wednesday, and it’s got people questioning the worth of the season.

The opening scene shows Fred Andrews getting shot in Pop’s, and it’s already drama filled. The first 10 minutes set the whole season up for suspicion and distrust. Archie is a complete wreck after his father gets shot, obviously, and it’s going to be the whole theme for the rest of the season. If this season will be anything like last season and already starting off with two tragedies that’s left the town all torn up, then we probably won’t see who the shooter is until the last episode of the season. Jughead is also having to come to terms with his membership in the Southside Serpents and what that means. He already has them doing as he says, and they’re acting as if Jughead is FP’s replacement. Like last season with Jason Blossom being murdered, and who did it and why, that is even being questioned by Cheryl Blossom. People are thinking it’s a Serpent, or someone who is connected to the Lodge’s.

The sophomore high school children are doing a better investigation of who the shooter is than the actual sheriff, coming up with their own theories and following their lead. Also, how did Archie get back to his house if he doesn’t have a driver’s license, and why was Veronica Lodge in the shower with him? If “the gang” is supposed to be sophomores in high school, then why are they doing adult like things. Also, why was Archie enjoying his shower, then yelling at Veronica two minutes later?

One thing that didn’t quite make a lot of sense in this episode is why is everything not in the 21st Century except for the characters? The doctors outfits, the medical machines, the cars, just the town itself seems to be so much older than the kids. It’s really confusing, and doesn’t make sense that the hospital, cars, music and town would have a ‘50s vibe, but the characters would have Iphones and dress like modern teenagers?

Other cast favorites such as the football team (featuring Charles Melton with only one line, and a quick camera view during one of Fred’s dreams), the cheer squad and Josie and the Pussycats were all there and showing their support of Fred and Archie.

Another big question, is what’s Cheryl going to do next, and is she going to uncover big secrets within her family and the town?

The first episode leaves huge questions and ends on a cliffhanger, but aside from the few questions it raised, it looks like it’s going to be as good as last season; with more similarities to the comics than last season.
