Girls JV golf earns fifth in Salina

Manhattan High’s Junior Varsity girls golf team placed fifth in their second tournament this week at Great Life Golf Course in Salina, hosted by Salina South on Sept. 13. Twelve teams with approximately 70 girls participated.

The course was very hilly and it was windy according to J.V. coach Kim Crusinberry. These setbacks didn’t stop MHS who tied with Newton for fifth place behind Hays, Hutchinson and Valley Center. Other teams that played were Salina South, Salina Central, Junction City, Wamego, Great Bend, Buhler and Hays-Thomas More Prep.

MHS’s top finisher was junior Hannah Higgins with a score of 58 followed by freshman Kealyn Lhuillier and freshman Lizzy Tauschek, both with a score of 62.

“Although scores were higher than we hoped I’m very proud of the progress this group is making,” Crusinberry said.

The next girls golf tournament will be held on Thursday in Council Grove.
