Playing in South Gym on Thursday, Lady Indians J.V. volleyball faced three teams and beat them all.

In their first match against Emporia, the girls won in a straight two-set match.

“We played them before,” right-side hitter Eilish MacCharles said. “I remember the first time I played them, the matches were really tough. [The team] really bonded and everyone was talking and the energy was amazing on the court.”

Their next match was against Junction City. J.V. once again won with a two-set match, continuing their winning streak that night.

“As a team, I think, we get really excited in the J.C. game,” junior middle blocker Hana Tamura said. “It’s a lot more fun. [Junction City is] scrappy so they get a lot of balls up that you wouldn’t think they’d get to.”

The last game of the night completed the Lady Indian’s victories in a winning match against Topeka High.

“We knew that they’d be scrappy so we had to be ready to get the ball up at any time,” junior outside hitter Josie Hilgers said. “We just worked well as a team. It’s fun when we get a big hit or something. We all get excited together.”

As J.V. prepared for their match last week and yesterday, Varsity took the time to ready themselves for their matches in Emporia on Tuesday. Varsity’s next home meet will be at 9 a.m. Saturday in the North Gym.
