Girls basketball start state tournament off strong

Perfection is what the Manhattan High girls Varsity basketball team presented yesterday in state quarterfinals when they defeated the Olathe Northwest Ravens, 63-52, moving to 22-1.

The first quarter began neck and neck, with Manhattan leading 7-5 at the 6:00 mark, but they were quickly able to pull away, ending the quarter with Manhattan up 21-10. The Lady Indians allowed that strong momentum to carry them throughout the rest of the game and they persisted to keep the pressure on the Ravens.

While this game  was a team effort, there were some players who were game changing, such as junior Chrissy Carr. Carr earned a new career high 27 points — 12 coming from 3-pointers, 12 from field goals and 3 from free throws.

The Lady Indians will play this afternoon in Wichita at 3 p.m. against Olathe South (19-4).
