Omega Psi Phi fraternity prepares annual high school talent hunt

Every year Phi Xi and Delta Delta Chapter of Omega Psi Phi fraternity holds a Talent Hunt for high school students.The Talent Hunt is open for contestants ranging from 9th to 12th grade looking to further their education after high school. The show was adopted as a mandated program within the fraternity in 1953 and occurs annually before their respective District meetings.The Talent Hunt came to be as a way to showcase talent and skill within the respective districts.

Members of the fraternity have been preparing by reaching out and involving themselves as much as possible in the community.

“Our fraternity would like to recognize the talent within our communities and bring awareness to these particular skills,” Talent Hunt Chair Caleb Taylor said.“[We are also] encouraging our future to continue to excel in the fine arts and even pursue college.”

The Talent Hunt has a simple yet wide range of possible talents for students to perform. It will have categories containing dramatic interpretation, dance, instrumental/vocal solos and visual arts. Judges will be critiquing based on degree of difficulty, stage presence, memorization and many more elements.

At the end of the Talent Hunt first, second and third place winners will be given awards. The awards can vary from certificates of participation, placement and monetary for the winner of each level planning to attend college. The first-place winner will go to represent the local chapter at their district meeting. The overall competition winner will represent the district at the international meeting held this summer in Cincinnati, Ohio.

“Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Inc. looks to produce quality events that benefit our community and the members within it,” Taylor said. “We believe by conducting such an event as the Talent Hunt we are able to connect with our community and recognize the youth within it who are being positive role models for their peers.”
