Weather has plagued the Varsity girls golf team much of the season, pushing the 6A State meet back a day. It was also an issue at Regionals on Oct. 8 at the Tex Consolver Golf Course in Wichita. Although the pressure was high, the rain did not phase the girls.

“The last 30 minutes or so [the rain] started and it was pretty heavy and very windy and they persevered and played pretty well,” head coach Paige McCarthy said.

The golf team finished second, losing by one stroke to Washburn Rural. Manhattan with an overall score of 182 and Washburn 181. From the team, five players placed in the top 10, everyone placing in the top 20. Senior Elise Jackson placed first, winning the individual championship.

Camryn McAtee, senior, tied for fifth, Andi Siebert, sophomore, placed seventh, AJ Ryan, sophomore, was eighth, Kamryn Bussmann, junior, placed 10th and Rhys Phipps, sophomore, tied for 16th.

The girls left this morning for State with a team send-off. They tee off at noon at the Salina Municipal Golf Course.
