Braxmeyer earns Teacher of the Year

Teacher of Manhattan High School, Dedra Braxmeyer has earned the Master Teacher of the Year award.

Currently teaching Advanced Algebra 2, Trigonometry and Pre-Calculus, Dedra Braxmeyer has been a teacher for a total of 20 years overall while having 13 spent at MHS.

“It was a big honor. There were a lot of nominees from other schools that I know and I think they are excellent teachers,” Braxmeyer said. “It felt special to be selected in a group of outstanding educators.”

Braxmeyer was nominated by Diana Wells to become the applicant for teacher of the year.

“Staff members nominate one another. A smaller community than that chooses the applicant for the school,” Braxmeyer said. “Then the applicant at each school submits their paperwork to the district committee.”

Braxmeyer was quite surprised that she made Master Teacher of the Year.

“I didn’t know what to expect,” Braxmeyer said. “I had never completed the application before. I didn’t know what I was getting into until I filled it out.”

Braxmeyer has received various compliments from so many people, especially when it helped her get appreciated.

“I have received lots of student’s kind notes, lots of text messages on social media, and from students in the hallway,” Braxmeyer said. “It’s been fun to reconnect with a lot of people and know that you’re appreciated.”
