Artist of the Week

Max Barbe

Sophomore

  • Barbe is heavily involved in his work in Thespians this year.

When did you get into art?

“I got into art about four or five years ago when I moved here.”

Is there anyone who inspires you?

“I’m inspired by a lot of people who aren’t necessarily artists in the same way I am. I have a lot of musical inspirations, like Declan McKenna, Billie Eilish or Grandson, who inspired me to put my best face forward, and I try to show that in my art.”

What does art do for you emotionally?

“Emotionally, art gives me something like an outlet. Mental health is something I am open about, and being open about my struggle with it. It’s a way to let out my struggles and ‘vent’ I guess.”

What is your favorite type of art to create?

“I love doing portraits. I draw people who inspire me. I draw friends, who mean the world to me. I’ll draw people who I think have interesting features. I draw beautiful people, and I think everyone is beautiful.”

What kind of art classes do you participate in?

“I participate in a lot of arts around the school. I draw, I do musical theater, I love it all.”

Do you see this as a career?

“It’s something that I’d love to make into a career, and I’m working towards that.”
