One Direction Releases “Four”

The internationally famous boyband One Direction has done it again with yet another incredible album. “Four”, the new album name, shows that the five boys in One Direction are growing up.

Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan, Liam Payne and Zayn Malik, the members of One Direction, say that this is the album they take the most pride in. Their previous albums “Up All Night,” “Take Me Home,” and “Midnight Memories” all have very different and individual music styles. In the “Up All Night” album, the band stuck with a more pop sound, as heard in the ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ hit single. However, the “Take Me Home” album was slightly more mature, music style maturing, as well as vocal performance. On the last album, “Midnight Memories” the band had more of an ‘80s sound with the incorporation of the electric guitars. It is easy to say that the boy band has transitioned into more of a pop rock genre, with their fans following their lead.

The album “Four” has been a hit worldwide, being on the top five pre-order list on Itunes since they announced the album, and the release now making it to number one. The album includes the single ‘Steal My Girl’ and the songs released prior to the release of the album, ‘Ready to Run,’ ‘Where Do Broken Hearts Go,’ ‘18,’ ‘Girl Almighty,’ ‘Fool’s Gold’ and ‘Night Changes’ with additional songs such as ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ and ‘Clouds.’

Inevitably, the album includes some songs with excessive repetitiveness, but the songs are continually well written and have an astounding sound. The fans have matured with the band, and therefore accept their new sound of going back in time to the ‘80s. ‘Act My Age’, only found on the deluxe edition of “Four,” has an extremely unique sound that can be classified as Irish-based due to its background music, but also incorporates pop during the chorus.

The music video corresponding with the next single off the album, ‘Night Changes,’

is to be released Nov. 21.

The writers of the album, mostly the band members, did a phenomenal job giving the songs meaning rather than plain music with extreme repetitiveness. “Four” will compete with Taylor Swift’s new album, “1989,”  and even has the potential to be even more popular than “1989.”
