The Manhattan High School C-team boys placed first with 23 points at their first meet of the season. Although the weather heated up before they ran, they didn’t let that stop them from trying their best.

Sophomore Jett Ford placed first with a time of 16:00:1 and junior Dominic Palmieri placed second with a time of 16:09:4. Both want to make Junior Varsity this season.

“I think I did a little bit worse than my last [race],” Palmieri said.

Although personal records and efforts were less than desirable to some, others felt proud of what they had accomplished.

“I think today’s race went really [well],” Ford said.

The boys are aiming for Centennial League this season, which the girls team has already won nine years in a row.

The boys had an eight year streak but then they got second place last year,” head coach Susan Melgares said. “[The boys] are motivated.”

With high goals and high scores, no one is letting the weather get in their way from running as fast as they can. Their next race is on Sept. 21 in Joplin, Missouri where they will compete in the Missouri Southern Stampede.
