Football drops second straight game

After falling last week in the Silver Trophy Game, the Indians dropped another game at Hayden Friday 28-42. The Tribe managed to salvage 28 points in the second half after going scoreless in the first.

“It was a tough game for starters,” senior Cade Wilson said. “Hayden is a good team and they played a good game. We couldn’t get a lot of things going and we couldn’t really ever get into a good rhythm. I didn’t think it was a bad game, we just had a lot of things working against us.”

The Indians had a lot of injuries from the week before. Many still played but senior running back Lorenzo Wilhoite was absent from the game. Senior Jeramiah Eustaquio said the injuries wasn’t the main reason for the loss.

“Every year there’s always a teammate or teammates that get injured or subbed out,” Estaquio said. “It’s a part of the sports in my opinion. Our subs Friday night did their job, though.”

Hayden scored 21 unanswered points to start the game, two of their touchdowns coming on the first play of each drive, running right up the middle of the field for 50+ yard touchdowns.

“I feel like as a team we didn’t play to our full potential [versus Hayden] and that we weren’t as prepared as we should’ve been,” Estaquio said. “We were lazy during practice that week and it translated onto the field on Friday night.”

The Indians will play host to Topeka High this Friday. A game that always is intriguing in scoreline as the past three years it’s been a single digit win for each team. 21-14 in 2017, 21-20 in 2018, and 27-22 last year.

“[We have] to come back… focused and ready for a tough game Friday [versus Topeka High],” Wilson said.
