Swim prepares for upcoming meet

The swim team has had a week and a half to prepare for their meet today in Overland Park.

“We are trying to do a lot smaller meets,” head coach Alex Brown said. “And it’s okay, I do not mind going to a smaller meet.”

Only going up against two other teams means that the pressure to perform is on, as there are only going to be 20 boys going.

“I’d say the biggest thing is just to be competitive. There’ll be some pretty good individuals at this meet, especially from the hosting [team],” Brown said. “We’re not going in with the thought of winning but just competing and putting our best and if I’m seeing good efforts from everyone that’s all I’m asking of right now.”

They are also competing in the same pool where state will be held this year.

“That’ll be nice to see and get used to what state competition will be like, or at least, where we’ll be competing at,” Brown said.

In the past week, the team has been practicing to still catch up with their training from last year.

“A lot of the last couple weeks has been getting our endurance and our fitness levels back up, since we haven’t been able to,” Brown said. “There haven’t been pools to swim in for the past six months. So, working on getting our endurance up and getting a little more fitness underneath us is the most important thing right now, and then we’re going to add speeds to that as we go.”

Alex

So how many teams are going to be there. Just, just three teams. Well like total training.

Um, no, we are trying to do a lot smaller meets, which is entirely. And it’s okay, I do not mind going to a smaller meet.

What are you looking forward to tomorrow, looking for?

So that’ll be nice to see and get used to what state competition will be like, or at least, where we’ll be competing at.

I’d say the biggest thing is just to be competitive there’ll be some pretty good individuals at this meet, especially from the hosting and we’re not going in with you know our lack of people are able to take we’re not going in with the thought of winning but just competing and putting our best and if I’m seeing good efforts from everyone that’s all I’m asking of right now.

Oh, how many people are going tomorrow, probably 19-20 kids.

So only, not even two thirds of our kids will be competing so that’s okay.

What have you guys been working on in practice?

A lot of the last couple weeks has been getting our endurance and our fitness levels back up, since we haven’t been able to.

There haven’t been pools to swim in for the past six months. So, working on getting our endurance up and getting a little more fitness underneath us is the most important thing right now, and then we’re going to add speeds to that as we go.

You have nothing else.

No.
