German Club kicked off the year last Thursday with an ice cream social after school in the courtyard as a way of getting more students involved in German activities, according to treasurer Ayianna Bailey.

The event was a way to “foster interest in the German culture and language,” according to sponsor and German teacher Frau Elke Lorenz said.

Lorenz wants members to make good friendships and have fun in the club. Secretary Aspen Tallent said one of her big goals for the club was to get more members.

“I’m hoping to be active in events around the school,” Tallent said.

Some upcoming events include Oktoberfest, selling advent calendars, going to middle schools to teach German and this year’s Schülerkongress. German Club president Zoe Myer was presented with an award at the ice cream social for completing a German speaking exam as one of last year’s events.
