Manhattan Football cruised to their fourth victory of the season in convincing fashion, shutting out Topeka High 49-0.

“It went pretty good,” senior receiver Kyler Hahn said. “We got stuff to work on for this week but overall I’m satisfied with how we played.”

The Manhattan defense was firing on all cylinders from the get-go, forcing two interceptions (including a pick-six by senior Joe Hall) and a blocked field goal by junior Dre Delort. However, most importantly, the Indians defense shut down Topeka’s elusive running back Tylan Alejos.

“Defensively we definitely wanted to shut down the running game,” head coach Joe Schartz said.

“Number seven Tylan Alejos was a very good running back for them and we were able to shut down the run game and force them into being one dimensional throwing the ball. And so, you know, defensively we accomplished our goals”

On the offensive end, junior quarterback Keenan Schartz led the way. Keenan ran for two touchdowns and found Hahn for a passing touchdown in the third quarter.

“[Topeka High likes] to overload to one side,” Keenan said. “I mean sometimes they would bring both linebackers on the same side and at least one side completely open. And so, that took a lot of recognition.”

Manhattan will take on Seaman this Friday at Bishop Stadium.
