Manhattan High School’s FCCLA club held a fundraiser on Oct. 15-17 at Manhattan High School to help fund their trip to Washington D.C.

“This conference is to just kind of talk about all the events that happened over the year and there’s a big award ceremony for the different competitions that take place within the club and all that stuff,” junior Conner Andreason said.

The group — along with a handful of parents — sold homemade bierocks to the public. hey advertised through the school’s media, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts. Because of advertising, the club made and sold all 300 bierocks to community members, faculty and students of MHS.

“We had 300 in total to make and we made 200-250 on Friday, then we finished up and made 60 on Saturday, and then made an extra 18 on Sunday,” junior Josh O’Connor said. “It was a lot — we did a massive push to try and make all that by Friday but that didn’t happen.”

The members who participated in the fundraiser will be traveling to Washington D.C. on Nov. 4-7 to attend the annual FCCLA conference. There, they will encounter several other schools from all different parts of the country and will be presented awards from previous competitions.

“In November, we are going to DC for a couple days,” Andreason said. “It’s basically a massive conference that brings a lot of schools throughout the nation together because of how big of a club FCCLA is.”
