Snapchat threats don’t materialize

Riley County Police Department released a statement Jan. 24 concerning threats of violence on Snapchat directed at USD 383 schools.

“We do not believe these messages are a credible source of information or originate from a local source,” RCPD said in a statement released Monday night. “Any individuals that engage in these threats will be taken seriously by both the local school districts and RCPD. Participation in social media threats, on or off school grounds, could result in school discipline and/or criminal charges.”

Police presence at USD 383 and Manhattan High was increased during the school day Tuesday. No incidents of violence were reported in connection to the threats. RCPD encourages students not to share threatening posts and instead inform a trusted adult.
