The Scholars Bowl team will advance to Regionals after winning their Centennial League meet on Thursday.

Scholars Bowl coach and math teacher Ted Dawdy and assistant coach and social studies teacher Tim Ekart, took the team to the League meet where they placed first.

“It was the 10th time… that competition has been held,” Dawdy said. “That was only the third time in 10 years that we have placed first.”

The team went through seven rounds against seven different teams and was undefeated, with their closest match being 40 points.

“This group has been together for two solid years now and what they did yesterday was just exactly how I expect them to do,” Dawdy said.

According to junior Thomas Laub, winning was the highlight of the meet.

“We won against Washburn Rural, who is probably the second best team in the state and haven’t won against them in a while,” Loub said.

With Regionals coming up soon and State right around the corner, the team is putting in a lot of work in order to advance in Regionals and make it to State.

“The pressure’s a little bit higher,” junior Julius Neumann.

Regional is on Thursday and there’s a lot of excitement and enthusiasm from the Scholars Bowl team.

“It was a lot of fun last year so I’m excited to do it again,” senior Grace Higgins said. “It is like a higher level of competition and higher stakes.”
