Tennis starts season strong

Coming into the 2022 fall season, the Manhattan girls tennis team is starting off strong. The Varsity team has played in four meets and overall the team has won two. 2021 State champion Jillian Harkin, senior, is already on track to be a top contender at state, as she is 12-0.

“I think both my individual season and our team season have gone really well so far,” Harkin said. “We’ve placed really high at all of our meets.”

The team has a strong group of seniors, with senior Maura Weins being 6-3, and senior Taryn Robinson being 7-2.

An important part of playing your best and being motivated is having good teammates that push you and encourage you through thick and thin.

“All the girls get along really well,” Harkin said. “Our coach does a great job of keeping our Varsity and J.V girls close together. We do a lot of things together so there’s not a lot of division.”

Heading into the rest of the season the team has lots of goals, both as a team and individually.

I think our main goals are to place in the top two for League and regionals,” Harkin said. “Then placement top five at State. [Individually]  I would just say keep improving and playing my best tennis and playing the state championship again.”
