After winning league and placing second at Regionals, the girls tennis team finished off the 2022 season with sixth place at the State meet in Wichita. Senior Jillian Harkin won third place in singles, while senior Maura Wiens placed 11th in the singles category.

“I’d say it went really well for our whole team,” Harkin said. “I was really proud of the way that we all played and competed, it was definitely a success.”

When preparing for big competitions like State, attitude can have a big effect on the outcome of a team or individual score.

“I think I had a great attitude,” Harkin said. “I was really nervous going into my first match, but I think my second match and all my matches after that, I played some of my best tennis I have in my whole high school career.”

As this was the last meet for the current seniors, knowing that they were playing their last high school tennis matches was a bittersweet feeling.

“I was especially proud of my last match,” Harkin said. “Especially knowing that it was going to  be my last match ever in high school and wanting to be proud of it, and I’m super proud of the way I played and competed the whole weekend.”
