After winning league on Oct. 3, the girls tennis team headed into Regionals over the weekend with their spirits high and overall placed second at the meet.

“We were all super excited and all felt really confident going into Regionals,” senior Jillian Harkin said, “especially because our league is harder than our regionals.”

Harkin won all her matches, achieving her goal for the regional meet. The meet was grueling, the team was there from 7 a.m to 10 p.m, but that didn’t stop them.

“We just put a lot of effort into it,” Harkin said. “I think a second place finish is really great.”

Senior Maura Weins had a strong performance as well at Regionals. Facing both easy and tough competitors, Weins played well and is confident heading into State.

“I think I played really well,” Weins said. “I had two pretty easy matches and then faced harder ones, but I pushed through and was really good.

Throughout the whole season the team has seen lots of improvement from everyone.

“I think this is by far my best high school season,” Weins said. I’ve been doing pretty well, Jillian and I have both had great seasons and our doubles have significantly improved throughout the season.”

As the team heads into the State meet, everyone is feeling very confident and has high hopes.

“I feel really confident for myself and for our team,” Harkin said. “We’ve worked really hard and I think our practice is paying off. So I’m just excited to see how everything plays out.”
