Manhattan High School junior varsity football beat Junction City 45 to zero Monday night. The game started off strong with a touchdown on the first play made by sophomore Gabe Summerlin.

“[The] defense played great, pitched the shut out and didn’t let anyone score,” assistant coach Lucas Aslin said. “Highlight of the day.”

MHS continued to play well throughout the game with both exciting and frustrating moments. With 26 seconds left in the first half, Manhattan fumbles the ball, gets hit and fumbles again. MHS sophomore runningback Jaydin Hudley, sophomore, picks up the ball, almost making a touchdown in the same play but easily makes it in the next.

“…there was moments where it went bad,” Hudley said. “But we came together as a team.”

In the third quarter, sophomore quarterback Carter Aslin scores a touchdown, but a yellow flag is thrown onto the field. The referee calls that the defensive lineman received a personal foul, luckily the touchdown still goes through.

Aslin was happy with the turn out of Monday’s game.

“The kids just played hard and that’s really kind of the game, play really hard and usually you have pretty good success,” Aslin said.
