All things Science. The Manhattan High School’s Science Olympiad chapter had their first in-person tournament at Olathe South on Nov. 10.

Science Olympiad is a national STEM competition for middle and high school students.  There are 23 events for each age group to compete in to display a variety of talents in science and technical events. Participants work as a team of 15 and compete in different areas of science. Each student competes in a group of two to three with an opportunity to compete in up to four events.

“It was just nice to get back in person,” junior Anvesha Sharda said, “and interact with the other teams.” junior Anvesha Sharda said.  Sharda competes in Green Generation, Forensics, and Anatomy and Physiology.

The MHS chapter placed five overall at the Olathe conference. They placed first in Environmental Chemistry, second in Chem Lab and Disease Detectives and third in Fermi Questions, Forestry Rocks, Minerals and Write It Do it.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all non-regional and state competitions were online; this was MHS’s first in-person Science Olympiad tournament in two years.
