Debate wrapped up the semester on Dec. 3 with two tournaments, the Mary Beth McCarthy tournament at Hayden Catholic High School and the Lawrence High School Online Tournament. The team placed third overall at the Hayden tournament and at the Lawrence tournament, junior Katharine Ward and sophomore Salina Wong placed first, sophomores Ava Bunnell and Nathan Lee placed fifth, and freshmen Emron Streetman and Cameron Williams placed seventh.

“Overall solid tournaments,” coach Mac Phrommany said. “This does unfortunately mark the end of the [MHS debate team] taking first at every tournament streak. We’ll be taking a break from our home tournaments.”

Coming up next, the debate team is preparing for this weekend’s national qualifying tournaments where four teams will compete for three national qualification spots. Debate is prepping out the four speaker regional tournaments on the first weekend of winter break, as well as a couple state level tournaments that will happen next semester in January.
