Manhattan High often does class activities at the Sunset Zoo, but the Environmental Club’s February meeting last Thursday was at a different kind of zoo—Kansas State’s Insect Zoo.

“They have a lot of really cool stuff there,” president Allie Cloyd, junior said. “You would never really know, it’s pretty tucked away.”

The members of the club got to tour the insects there such as their colony of ants, a foot-long stick bug and a tarantula eating a cockroach

The zoo also has an outreach program which the club got to learn how the zookeepers take care of the specimens and even raise them.

“We just got to introduce people who had probably never even seen those insects before,” Cloyd said. “It was some pretty cool stuff.”
