IPS shows off talents

As the lights dim in Rezac auditorium, everyone waits in anticipation for the annual InterPersonal Skills talent show.

The IPS program launched the talent show more than a dozen years ago to showcase members of the student body and IPS program, a group that consists of seniors and students in the special education program.. The IPS class consists of seniors and students in the special education program. The main goal of the IPS program is to celebrate differences in the students who participate. The entirety of the show is created and run by the students in IPS.

“[During] class we broke into groups and did specific things,” senior Claire Crocker said. “Someone did programs, people were doing MCS and then we all practiced our acts.”

The show itself had everything from impressions to dancing, drawing, and group basketball and dance routines. While many of the acts were performed by those in the IPS class, the show was open to anyone in the school to participate.

Members of the Blue Bousa[check spelling] performed a jazz piece and sisters junior Rebekah and senior Kathryn Borthwick sang a song from “Frozen”.

The IPS class and other participants put lots of time and effort into making sure the show ran smoothly. From sound and light operators to MCs and stage crew, to the acts themselves.

“A couple weeks before the talent show, we all just split up into groups and did all of our individual parts,” Crocker said. “Then we had multiple practices after school and during class with people running curtains, lights and cameras.”

The show concluded with a group routine by all the participants of “We’re All in this Together” from “High School Musical.”

“I was very pleased with what I saw,” Crocker said. “I was hoping to see that everything came together because I was kind of nervous, because it was a lot to do, but it ran very smoothly, and I was happily surprised by it.”
