The Manhattan Girls soccer have played 10 games so far this season, with their record as of now being 5-4-1.

In late March to early April, the girls were playing games left and right with very little stops.

In their game against Olathe North, the level of play was even throughout both teams, leaving MHS with their first tie of the season.

“I feel like we definitely  needed to get more into the game,” senior goalie Taylor Mchugh said, “like I felt we did good individually, but I felt like we needed to combine a little bit more.”

The girls then had two away games against Lawrence Free State and Washburn Rural. They won against Lawrence 1-1 and lost against Washburn, their Centennial League rivals, 0-3

Their next game was against Emporia at home. This game had a significant energy difference as the girls won the game 6-0.

“I love playing at home,” head coach Mike Sanchez said. “It’s always nice to play at home and it’s kind of more relaxing.”

Next up was Bishop Carrol and right from kickoff, the vibe was different from Emporia relaxed gameplay. The girls ended up going 0-3 this game and junior Emery Ruliffson even got a yellow card.

Yet again, the energy shifted to a relaxed place for their latest game against Topeka High, winning 7-1.

“I love the way they came out in the second half,” Sanchez said. “They made the right adjustments, obviously having the wind helps a little bit too, but the first half was pretty good.”

The girls played Trinity Academy this Tuesday and play Hays on Thursday at Hays.
