For this edition’s student athletes of the month, head coach Mike Sanchez nominated Chloe Porter for soccer.

“Well, I’ve been on the team for three years now and I’d like to think I’m getting better at showing leadership,” Porter said. “Honestly, I feel like I haven’t been great at it, but it’s getting better.”

Porter primarily plays defense for the team, but in some games she plays midfield, allowing her to move to field and take some hits on the goal. She has scored two goals this season against opponents Topeka High and Lawrence Free State.

Porter has also been mentioned last year as a Centennial League honorable mention player for her work on the field.

“I love the team environment,” Porter said. “It’s fun hanging out with the team and getting to know and play with them.”

Porter has helped maintain the steady flow of the girls current record of 5-4-1, keeping the balls out of the box and pushing them towards the opponent.
