This year’s Student Council representatives have big plans for Manhattan High School. Plans to create opportunities for students to hang out and for connections with the Manhattan community.

One activity currently being planned is “Mr. MHS.” Junior and senior class boys can audition for Mr. MHS on Oct. 27.

“I haven’t been to a Mr. MHS but…I have friends that have asked if they can come back and watch Mr. MHS,” StuCo sponsor Dustin Duntz said.

Senior Anvesha Sharda, Student Body Vice President, is looking forward to Mr. MHS with the theme for this year: Everybody’s favorite 007, James Bond. She wants to help raise money and gain more community service opportunities for the school.

“Maximize our funds and giving opportunities to people within StuCo that hasn’t been available to them,” Sharda said.

Jibran Khmous, president of the sophomore class, would like StuCo to provide a gathering place where students can spend time together after school. Khmous is planning to have a bake sale mid-November to raise funds for these events.

StuCo is always looking for ways to involve more of our student body in their activities.  If students are interested in being a part of StuCo, Khmous suggests the most important thing is to have confidence.  By having confidence you will be more likely to share your ideas. Some of these ideas have led to these exciting upcoming events, such as a fair towards the end of the year to promote community among Manhattan High School students.

“My main goal for the school is to try and make it more fun,” Khmous said.

In the same way StuCo representatives are changing up the events they are planning, StuCo as a whole has been changing as well.

Since Dustin Duntz has taken over as lead StuCo sponsor, he has changed up a few things. To start, each grade has their own StuCo sponsor, providing student representatives more opportunities for creativity amongst all age groups.

Duntz also said that the reorganization of StuCo has enabled students to collaborate more. Students are not as alone with their ideas and do more as a full StuCo group. For example, concession stand volunteering has now become a more collaborative effort. Juniors are no longer the only ones who can run concessions. Instead, MHS students of all grade levels can run the concession stand with their clubs that need fundraisers.

StuCo, and the school administration as a whole, has adopted a new collaborative nature, and hopes to continue providing immense opportunities heading into the future.
